April Mariposa Painting
The original painting for the April edition of Mariposa Mail Club.
This painting is inspired by Easter and the month of April. It includes some Bougainvillea flowers, a chocolate Easter Bunny, a yellow Peep marshmallow, a flooded Palm leaf cross, an Easter basket filled with eggs, and jellybeans.

When my sisters and I were younger, my parents would take us to a nearby lake for Easter. My dad would grill and my mom would prepare sides like pico de gallo and my sisters and I would ride around on our bikes and go play by the water. Later in the afternoon we could crack cascarones on our heads and spread confetti everywhere. It was so much fun!
The painting has some classic Easter goodies like the basket of eggs, jellybeans, and a chocolate bunny. The flowers I included are called Bougainvillea. We see them a lot here in south Texas, but I get to see some everyday in front of my dad’s shop. I think they are so unique and beautiful that I really wanted to include them this month.
The last item in the painting left to mention is the Easter palm cross. This is also part of my childhood memories. We would go to church on palm Sunday and they would pass out palm leaves in thin strips. My sisters and I would keep ourselves busy by forming the leaves into different shapes, but the most common one was a cross.
